Recycling

The conversion of landfill gas to energy is an effective means of recycling and reusing this valuable resource. Landfill gas collection systems are how modern landfills deal with gases created within the waste. The landfill gas that is collected contains approximately 50% methane and is either destroyed by combusting it in a flare or is diverted to an on-site treatment facility for the conversion of this gas to energy. The treated landfill gas is either pumped off site to a manufacturer near the landfill to supplement or replace their natural gas usage or is used to generate electricity right at the landfill. Another benefit of the destruction or utilisation of this landfill gas is that it prevents the raw methane in the gas from escaping into the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas.

R & M Walsh supply the best quality ignition parts and bespoke solutions for all types of gas engines that generate electricity.

Power To Grid Standby Generation / Peek Lopping

When electrical grid supply is insufficient, Generation supply companies are an invaluable back-up solution, providing instant electricity. We supply the quality gas engines, spark plugs, leads and ignition products to ensure the immediate ramp up of this back-up power source.

Transport

More and more transport companies are turning to CNG, the cleanest burning transportation fuel on the market today. CNG burns cleaner than petroleum-based products because of its lower carbon content. It produces the fewest emissions of all other fuels and contains significantly less pollutants than gasoline.

Fleet operators of vehicles that run on LNG / CNG Natural Gas or Biogas Engines require reliable ignition for continuous running. R&M Walsh supply ignition solutions, spark plugs and ignition leads to meet these demands.

AD Biogas / Renewable Energy

Biogas, or renewable natural gas is the name given to the mixture of methane and carbon dioxide (CO2) gases that is formed whenever organic materials such as animal or food waste decompose in the absence of air. This process is known as anaerobic digestion (AD).

Biogas CHP utilises the biogas to produce electricity and heat, which can then be used on farms or sold. This diversification increases efficiency which is necessary now more than ever due to low incomes and fuel price increases. It also presents the opportunity to claim government incentives to cut carbon emissions.

R&M Walsh Ltd works with the world’s leading parts manufacturers to provide support nationwide, with parts for servicing and maintenance. We can also offer bespoke solutions.

Water Treatment Plants Making Water and Electricity

The anaerobic digestion of bacteria both treats sewage and produces a useful gas: bio-methane. This biogas can be used as fuel to power gas engines that generate electricity, powering sewage treatment plants and providing extra electricity to be fed back into the grid.

To maximise efficiency, the waste heat of these gas engines is used to heat the digester, encouraging the growth of bacteria that digests sewage.

This industry is a fundamental cog of a modern nation’s infrastructure and energy provision. Not only this, but the increasing move towards greener and sustainable regulations makes this an ever-important focus for the energy and waste sectors alike.
